E-badges Guidance (Rewarding Welsh Skills)

An interactive resource that aims to create a context in which social work students can empathise with service users and feel and understand why Welsh-medium services are an important consideration. The module is based on 5 units which focus on:   understanding language need; going under the skin of the bilingual experience; considering the context of the Welsh language – its current condition, its history and the impact on service users; exploring the relationship between language and power, the implications of the More than just words strategy and active offer, and getting ready to practise and work in accordance with More than just words. Ideally, students should work their way through the materials from unit 1 to 5 as discussion and learning builds incrementally from one to the other. However, the units are also self-contained to a large extent and units, or parts of a unit, may be lifted and used in conjunction with other modules or learning materials.

These courses are for apprentices who currently have little or no Welsh language skills. They enable apprentices to complete part of their qualification in Welsh. HOW TO USE THE RESOURCES? The first five units introduces the importance of the Welsh language as a skill for the workplace while the content of units 6 is tailored to different vocational subjects. Everyone will complete Units 1-5 General and then select the version that suits them for Unit 6. Unit 6 has additional versions that have been tailored to the following five specific vocational subjects (if you do not follow one of these, you will complete Unit 6 General): Healthcare  Childcare Public Services Agriculture Construction WHICH LEVEL SHOULD YOU COMPLETE? There are two levels of Prentis-iaith: Prentis-iaith Awareness Level (for apprentices that have little or no Welsh language skills) Prentis-iaith Understanding Level (for apprentices who already have some understanding of Welsh) If you are unsure which level is suitable for you, use this quiz to determine the suitable level.   LEARNING PROVIDERS AND COLLEGES These courses are also available via the learning portals of the main apprenticeship providers in Wales. Other providers wishing to make the courses available through their LMS should download the units from the zipfile that can be accessed below. It is possible for learners to print certificates automatically after completeing each unit. These bilingual language awareness resources have been developed for Health and Social Care FE learners. They aim to increase the understanding of learners with different Welsh language skills of the significance of the Welsh language in health and social care services. In particular, they support the teaching of Unit 1 of the new Health and Social Care Level 2: Core qualification: learning outcomes 7 and 8. Learning outcome 7 requires learners to understand the importance of effective communication in health and social care.  Learning outcome 8 requires learners to understand the importance of Welsh language and culture for individuals and carers.   These resources are also vailable via FE colleges' learning portals.
